Pelicans' Davis leaves game after knee bruise, returns late

The Pelicans received their latest Anthony Davis injury scare Tuesday night, when the franchise cornerstone hurt his right knee chasing a ball into the stands in the first quarter at Atlanta.

The NBA’s leading scorer at the start of the night remained in the locker room the rest of the first half. He was questionable to return with a bruised knee, the Pelicans announced, adding that X-rays were negative. However, Davis re-entered the game in the fourth quarter.

New Orleans next plays Wednesday, at home against the Timberwolves.

Davis missed a game last week with a bruised thigh muscle in his right leg, after missing time during the exhibition schedule with a sprained ankle.

The knee injury came a day after he was named the Western Conference Player of the Week for averaging 33.7 points and 13.7 rebounds in three games.
