Five Storylines to Watch at This Year's Oxford 250

Any time you have a field of 70 entries, you can bet there are plenty of storylines baked int that field. Here are just a few of the threads we will be keeping an eye on this weekend during the 49th Annual Oxford 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway.

– Gabe Brown will be one to watch with his recent success at Oxford and this season. Brown has a PASS win at Oxford on July 10. He was also finished on the podium in the last PASS race at Oxford. Earlier in the season, he drove from the back of the pack to the top 10 to post a solid finish. Brown has 16 top-10 runs in 19 starts this season.

– The Oxford Plains Speedway points leader is always one to watch at the 250. Max Cookson is that man this year. The PASS Modified graduate has been nothing but solid this season at Oxford. With two wins and seven podium finishes, Cookson will be a factor in his rookie run at the 250. If he were to get a good draw, that could spell trouble for the outside world.

– We look to Bubba Pollard after he ran much better in 2021 at Oxford then he did in the previous years. Pollard, the 2018 winner of the event, comes back to Oxford with a fresh look after running strong at times this summer on several different types of tracks. Pollard has never had any success in the heats, so maybe a lucky draw will put him up front early and he can work from the front instead of from the back like he has done for so many years.

– Maybe there has never been another time in which Johnny Clark’s finishing numbers are as strong as they are heading into the 2022 Oxford 250. Johnny Clark has been in the top six in every race he has run since the 250 last year. Some might say the team is a little off, but all you have to do sometimes is put yourself in position to win the Oxford 250 and the rest takes care of itself.

– Never in the history of the race have we felt the draw is as important as this year. With 12 winners in 14 races and three different PASS winners in the longer races, the track position game is critical. Starting fifth might go a long way in winning the race if the faster cars have to come from the back. Remember, Trevor Sanborn and Bubba Pollard came from the back to post top 10s last year, but they likely used their stuff up getting there.
