Stellar efforts from Jabari Smith Jr. and Tari Eason – who combined for 64 points – helped spearhead the Houston Rockets to a 113-101 victory over the Detroit Pistons in the NBA 2K24 Summer League at Thomas and Mack Center on Sunday afternoon.

The battle between two teams that included several talented players with regular-season experience made it high-scoring affair. Houston was the more efficient offensive squad in the first half. The Rockets extended a seven-point first-quarter lead to 19 by halftime thanks to a dominant second period.

This gave the Rockets a cushion to withstand the Pistons’ 58-point second half.

Detroit was led by a trio of one-time first-round picks, with Jalen Duren scoring a team-high 23 points and adding 10 rebounds, one assist and one block. Jaden Ivey followed with a 22-point, 10-assist double-double that also included three rebounds, two steals and one block. James Wiseman furnished 17 points and 10 rebounds. No. 5 overall pick Ausar Thompson supplied 12 points, eight rebounds, six assists, three steals and two blocks.

Smith led all scorers with 38 points, complementing them with seven rebounds, six assists, one steal and one block. Eason registered 26 points, nine boards, three assists, two steals and two blocks. Rockets No. 20 overall selection Cam Whitmore turned in 21 points, two assists and one steal.

The Rockets return to the floor against Thunder on Tuesday evening, while the Pistons are back in action against the Raptors on Wednesday evening.
