LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo, the team captains for the NBA All-Star Game, will be drafting the rosters from a pool of players who have been voted in as starters and reserves for each conference. Their selections will be made without regard to conference affiliation. The captains are the All-Star starters from each conference who have got the maximum fan votes. More information on the 2019 NBA All-Star Draft will be shared at a later time.

The NBA also announced today the third fan returns of NBA All-Star Voting 2019 presented by Google. The Los Angeles Lakers’ LeBron James continues to lead the Western Conference and the Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo remains on top in the Eastern Conference.

The 10 starters for the 2019 NBA All-Star Game (five players from each conference) are determined by votes, 50% of which come from fans. The remaining 50% of the vote is split equally between current NBA players and a media panel, each contributing 25%. These voters complete a full ballot featuring two guards and three frontcourt players from each conference. Players have the option to vote for themselves or their teammates.

Once all votes are counted, players will be ranked by position (guard and frontcourt) within each conference and each of the three voting groups – fan votes, player votes, and media votes. A player’s score will be determined by averaging his weighted rank from the fan votes, player votes, and media votes. The two guards and three frontcourt players who have the highest score in each conference will be selected as NBA All-Star Game starters. In case of a tie in scores within a position group, fan voting will be the tiebreaker.

The 2019 NBA All-Star Voting, sponsored by Google, is scheduled from Dec. 25 to Jan. 21. Fans will be updated about the remaining two votes on Thursday, Jan. 10 and Thursday, Jan. 17.
