F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix?

Lando Norris pipped Max Verstappen to pole for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix in a thrilling qualifying battle. 

With Verstappen in the Red Bull and McLaren’s Norris joined by the Ferrari and Mercedes duos seemingly in the battle for pole, it was Verstappen and Norris who emerged from this pack as Norris secured that P1 grid slot for Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix.

Lando Norris snatches Spanish GP pole from Max Verstappen

Verstappen seemed to have secured pole position after improving his time in his final run, but Norris delivered a 1:11.383, outdoing Verstappen by a mere 0.02s, and grabbing pole position for himself.

The second row will be exclusively Mercedes, with Lewis Hamilton outperforming George Russell for only the second time this season. Charles Leclerc will be ahead of his Ferrari team-mate and local favorite, Carlos Sainz, in the third row.

The top 10 for the Spanish Grand Prix grid is completed by Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri, and Fernando Alonso.

Following the application of his three-place grid penalty from Canada, Sergio Perez is set to spearhead the effort to break into the top 10 and secure points-paying positions. Valtteri Bottas of Sauber will be alongside him on the sixth row.

Nico Hulkenberg from Haas and Lance Stroll, Aston Martin team-mate of Alonso, will form the seventh row, ahead of Zhou Guanyu from the second Sauber and Kevin Magnussen from Haas.

Yuki Tsunoda is leading Daniel Ricciardo in the ninth row, all of which is made up of RB racers, at the Spanish Grand Prix. The last row is effectively formed by Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant from Williams. After the team decided to modify his Energy Store and Control Electronics, Albon was moved to the pit lane.
