F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix?

Lando Norris pipped Max Verstappen to pole for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix in a thrilling qualifying battle. 

With Verstappen in the Red Bull and McLaren’s Norris joined by the Ferrari and Mercedes duos seemingly in the battle for pole, it was Verstappen and Norris who emerged from this pack as Norris secured that P1 grid slot for Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix.

Lando Norris snatches Spanish GP pole from Max Verstappen

In his final run, Verstappen seemed to have secured the pole position after gaining a few more tenths. However, Norris delivered a time of 1:11.383, surpassing Verstappen by a mere 0.02s, and ultimately securing the pole position for himself.

Lewis Hamilton outqualified George Russell for the second time this season, resulting in an all-Mercedes second row. Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc is ahead of his Ferrari teammate and local hero Carlos Sainz on the third row.

The top 10 for the Spanish Grand Prix grid is completed by Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri, and Fernando Alonso.

Following his three-place grid penalty issued in Canada, Sergio Perez is set to lead the effort to break into the top 10 and secure points-paying positions. Sauber’s Valtteri Bottas will be with him on the sixth row.

Nico Hulkenberg from Haas and Lance Stroll, Alonso’s team-mate from Aston Martin, will make up the seventh row, followed by Zhou Guanyu in the second Sauber and Kevin Magnussen from Haas.

Yuki Tsunoda is leading Daniel Ricciardo in the all-RB row nine, while Alex Albon from Williams and Logan Sargeant make up the back row for the Spanish Grand Prix. After the team decided to modify his Energy Store and Control Electronics, Albon was relegated to the pit lane.
