F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix?

Lando Norris pipped Max Verstappen to pole for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix in a thrilling qualifying battle. 

With Verstappen in the Red Bull and McLaren’s Norris joined by the Ferrari and Mercedes duos seemingly in the battle for pole, it was Verstappen and Norris who emerged from this pack as Norris secured that P1 grid slot for Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix.

Lando Norris snatches Spanish GP pole from Max Verstappen

It seemed like Verstappen had secured the pole position after his final run, where he found a few more tenths. However, Norris delivered a 1:11.383, surpassing Verstappen by a mere 0.02s to seize the pole position for himself.

Lewis Hamilton will be ahead of George Russell for only the second time this season in an all-Mercedes second row. Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc is ahead of his Ferrari team-mate Carlos Sainz, the home hero, on the third row.

The top 10 for the Spanish Grand Prix grid includes Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri, and Fernando Alonso.

Following his three-place grid penalty from Canada, Sergio Perez will spearhead the endeavor to break into the top 10 and secure points-paying positions. He will be accompanied by Valtteri Bottas from Sauber on the sixth row.

Nico Hulkenberg of Haas and Lance Stroll from Alonso’s Aston Martin team will make up the seventh row, followed by Zhou Guanyu in the second Sauber and Kevin Magnussen from Haas.

Yuki Tsunoda leads Daniel Ricciardo in an all-RB ninth row, with Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant of Williams forming the back row effectively for the Spanish Grand Prix. After a decision to change his Energy Store and Control Electronics, Albon fell back to the pit lane.
