F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix?

Lando Norris pipped Max Verstappen to pole for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix in a thrilling qualifying battle. 

With Verstappen in the Red Bull and McLaren’s Norris joined by the Ferrari and Mercedes duos seemingly in the battle for pole, it was Verstappen and Norris who emerged from this pack as Norris secured that P1 grid slot for Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix.

Verstappen seemed to have secured pole position in his final run after finding a few more tenths, but Norris outperformed him by clocking 1:11.383, just 0.02s faster, to claim the pole position for himself.

The second row will be entirely occupied by Mercedes, with Lewis Hamilton qualifying ahead of George Russell for only the second time this season. Charles Leclerc will be in front of his Ferrari team-mate and local favorite Carlos Sainz on the third row.

The top 10 for the Spanish Grand Prix grid is completed by Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri, and Fernando Alonso.

Following his three-place grid penalty from Canada, Sergio Perez is set to spearhead the effort to break into the top 10 and earn points. He will be joined by Sauber’s Valtteri Bottas on the sixth row.

Nico Hulkenberg from Haas and Lance Stroll, Alonso’s team-mate from Aston Martin, will be in the seventh row. They will be followed by Zhou Guanyu from the second Sauber and Kevin Magnussen from Haas.

Yuki Tsunoda is ahead of Daniel Ricciardo in an all-RB ninth row, while Alex Albon from Williams and Logan Sargeant will essentially make up the back row for the Spanish Grand Prix. After the team decided to alter his Energy Store and Control Electronics, Albon was relegated to the pit lane.
