F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix?

Lando Norris pipped Max Verstappen to pole for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix in a thrilling qualifying battle. 

With Verstappen in the Red Bull and McLaren’s Norris joined by the Ferrari and Mercedes duos seemingly in the battle for pole, it was Verstappen and Norris who emerged from this pack as Norris secured that P1 grid slot for Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix.

Lando Norris snatches Spanish GP pole from Max Verstappen

Verstappen seemed to have secured pole position after his final run, but Norris outperformed him with a time of 1:11.383, just 0.02s faster, securing the pole for himself.

The second row will be exclusively Mercedes, with Lewis Hamilton outperforming George Russell for only the second time this season. Charles Leclerc will be ahead of his Ferrari team-mate and local favorite, Carlos Sainz, on the third row.

The top 10 for the Spanish Grand Prix grid is completed by Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri, and Fernando Alonso.

Following his three-place grid penalty issued in Canada, Sergio Perez is set to spearhead the attempt to break into the top 10 and points-paying positions. He will be accompanied by Sauber’s Valtteri Bottas on the sixth row.

Nico Hulkenberg from Haas and Lance Stroll, Alonso’s team-mate from Aston Martin, will make up the seventh row. They will be in front of Zhou Guanyu from the second Sauber and Kevin Magnussen from Haas.

The ninth row is occupied entirely by RB, with Yuki Tsunoda leading Daniel Ricciardo. Meanwhile, Alex Albon from Williams and Logan Sargeant will essentially make up the last row for the Spanish Grand Prix. After the team decided to switch his Energy Store and Control Electronics, Albon was demoted to the pit lane.
