F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix?

Lando Norris pipped Max Verstappen to pole for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix in a thrilling qualifying battle. 

With Verstappen in the Red Bull and McLaren’s Norris joined by the Ferrari and Mercedes duos seemingly in the battle for pole, it was Verstappen and Norris who emerged from this pack as Norris secured that P1 grid slot for Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix.

Lando Norris snatches Spanish GP pole from Max Verstappen

It seemed as though Verstappen may have secured the pole after gaining a few tenths in his final run. However, Norris delivered a 1:11.383, surpassing Verstappen by a mere 0.02s, ultimately securing pole for himself.

Lewis Hamilton will be ahead of George Russell on the all-Mercedes second row, marking only the second time this season he has outqualified Russell. Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc will be leading his Ferrari team-mate and local favourite, Carlos Sainz, on the third row.

The top 10 for the Spanish Grand Prix grid is completed by Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri, and Fernando Alonso.

Following his three-place grid penalty from Canada, Sergio Perez is set to spearhead the effort to break into the top 10 and earn points-paying positions. Valtteri Bottas of Sauber will join him in the sixth row.

Nico Hulkenberg from Haas and Lance Stroll, who is Alonso’s team-mate from Aston Martin, will make up the seventh row. They will be followed by Zhou Guanyu from the second Sauber and Kevin Magnussen from Haas.

Yuki Tsunoda is leading Daniel Ricciardo in an all-RB row nine. Meanwhile, Williams’ Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant are expected to compose the back row for the Spanish Grand Prix. Following a decision to change his Energy Store and Control Electronics, Albon was moved to the pit lane.
