Lando Norris pipped Max Verstappen to pole for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix in a thrilling qualifying battle.

With Verstappen in the Red Bull and McLaren’s Norris joined by the Ferrari and Mercedes duos seemingly in the battle for pole, it was Verstappen and Norris who emerged from this pack as Norris secured that P1 grid slot for Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix.

Lando Norris snatches Spanish GP pole from Max Verstappen

It seemed like Verstappen might have secured the pole after improving by a few tenths in his final run. However, Norris outdid him by delivering a 1:11.383, just 0.02s faster than Verstappen, and clinched the pole for himself.

Lewis Hamilton outqualified George Russell for only the second time this season, securing an all-Mercedes second row. The third row will feature Charles Leclerc ahead of his Ferrari team-mate and local hero, Carlos Sainz.

The top 10 for the Spanish Grand Prix grid is completed by Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri, and Fernando Alonso.

Following his three-place grid penalty from Canada, Sergio Perez is set to spearhead the effort to crack the top 10 and score points. Valtteri Bottas of Sauber will be joining him on the sixth row.

Nico Hulkenberg from Haas and Lance Stroll, Alonso’s team-mate from Aston Martin, will make up the seventh row, followed by Zhou Guanyu in the second Sauber, and Kevin Magnussen from Haas.

Yuki Tsunoda leads Daniel Ricciardo in the all-RB ninth row, with Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant from Williams essentially making up the last row for the Spanish Grand Prix. After his team decided to replace his Energy Store and Control Electronics, Albon was moved to the pit lane.
