F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix?

Lando Norris pipped Max Verstappen to pole for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix in a thrilling qualifying battle. 

With Verstappen in the Red Bull and McLaren’s Norris joined by the Ferrari and Mercedes duos seemingly in the battle for pole, it was Verstappen and Norris who emerged from this pack as Norris secured that P1 grid slot for Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix.

Lando Norris snatches Spanish GP pole from Max Verstappen

It seemed like Verstappen might secure pole after gaining a few more tenths in his final run. However, Norris delivered a 1:11.383, outperforming Verstappen by a slim 0.02s margin and clinching the pole for himself.

Lewis Hamilton and George Russell will form an all-Mercedes second row, with Hamilton outqualifying Russell for only the second time this season. Charles Leclerc will be ahead of his Ferrari team-mate and local favorite Carlos Sainz in the third row.

The top 10 for the Spanish Grand Prix grid is completed by Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri, and Fernando Alonso.

Following his three-place grid penalty issued back in Canada, Sergio Perez is set to lead the effort to break into the top 10 and earn points. He will be joined by Valtteri Bottas from Sauber on the sixth row.

Nico Hulkenberg from Haas and Lance Stroll, Alonso’s teammate from Aston Martin, will make up the seventh row, leading Zhou Guanyu from the second Sauber and Kevin Magnussen from Haas.

Yuki Tsunoda leads Daniel Ricciardo in the all-RB ninth row, followed by Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant from Williams in the final row for the Spanish Grand Prix. Albon was relegated to the pit lane after his team decided to replace his Energy Store and Control Electronics.
