F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix?

Lando Norris pipped Max Verstappen to pole for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix in a thrilling qualifying battle. 

With Verstappen in the Red Bull and McLaren’s Norris joined by the Ferrari and Mercedes duos seemingly in the battle for pole, it was Verstappen and Norris who emerged from this pack as Norris secured that P1 grid slot for Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix.

Lando Norris snatches Spanish GP pole from Max Verstappen

It initially appeared that Verstappen might secure the pole after gaining a few more tenths on his final run. However, Norris outperformed him with a 1:11.383, surpassing Verstappen by a mere 0.02s to claim the pole for himself.

Lewis Hamilton outqualified George Russell for only the second time this season, securing an all-Mercedes second row. Charles Leclerc leads the third row, ahead of his Ferrari team-mate and local favorite, Carlos Sainz.

The top 10 for the Spanish Grand Prix grid is completed by Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri, and Fernando Alonso.

Following his three-place grid penalty from Canada, Sergio Perez is determined to break into the top 10 and earn points-paying positions. He will be leading this effort, with Valtteri Bottas of Sauber joining him on the sixth row.

Nico Hulkenberg from Haas and Lance Stroll, who is Alonso’s team-mate at Aston Martin, will be on the seventh row. They will be in front of Zhou Guanyu in the second Sauber and Kevin Magnussen from Haas.

Yuki Tsunoda is ahead of Daniel Ricciardo in an all-RB ninth row for the Spanish Grand Prix, while Alex Albon from Williams and Logan Sargeant make up the back row. Albon fell back to the pit lane when his team decided to alter his Energy Store and Control Electronics.
