F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix?

Lando Norris pipped Max Verstappen to pole for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix in a thrilling qualifying battle. 

With Verstappen in the Red Bull and McLaren’s Norris joined by the Ferrari and Mercedes duos seemingly in the battle for pole, it was Verstappen and Norris who emerged from this pack as Norris secured that P1 grid slot for Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix.

Lando Norris snatches Spanish GP pole from Max Verstappen

In his final run, Verstappen seemed to have secured the pole position after gaining a few more tenths. However, Norris delivered a 1:11.383, outperforming Verstappen by a narrow 0.02s to claim the pole for himself.

Lewis Hamilton has outqualified George Russell for only the second time this season, securing an all-Mercedes second row. On row three, Charles Leclerc is ahead of his Ferrari team-mate and local favorite, Carlos Sainz.

The top 10 for the Spanish Grand Prix grid is completed by Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri and Fernando Alonso.

Following his three-place grid penalty issued in Canada, Sergio Perez aims to break into the top 10 and secure points-paying positions. He is set to lead this effort with Sauber’s Valtteri Bottas joining him on the sixth row.

Nico Hulkenberg from Haas and Lance Stroll, Alonso’s teammate from Aston Martin, will make up the seventh row. They will be ahead of Zhou Guanyu from the second Sauber and Kevin Magnussen from Haas.

Yuki Tsunoda leads Daniel Ricciardo in an all-RB row nine, with Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant from Williams forming the back row for the Spanish Grand Prix. Albon was moved to the pit lane after his team decided to replace his Energy Store and Control Electronics.
