Clemson vs Georgia Predictions & NCAAF Picks (8/31)

College football is filled with intense rivalries, including an intense one between Clemson and Georgia that’s gone on for over 100 years. Since their first matchup in 1897, these powerhouses have gone on to collide 65 times, resulting in 43 victories for the Bulldogs.

Having said that, it’s been a few seasons since we last saw this rivalry on the gridiron. They most recently clashed in Charlotte, NC back during the 2021 season as Georgia emerged victorious with the hard-fought 10-3 victory. The outcome wasn’t anything unusual, though, as it marked the Bulldogs’ seventh victory over the Tigers in their last eight meetings.

Georgia now heads into the new slate as the nation’s No. 1 team following a strong 2023 season. The Bulldogs played to a 10-1 record last year and even notched an Orange Bowl victory while their only loss came against the Alabama Crimson Tide during the SEC Championship Game.

Meanwhile, Clemson’s 2023 season began with a 4-4 record only for the program to end the year on a five-game winning streak that included Palmetto and TaxSlayer Gator Bowl victories.

Will Clemson pick up from where it left off last season?

While Clemson has won 13 of its last 18 meetings against SEC schools, Georgia is currently on an eight-game winning streak against the ACC. Additionally, the Tigers have won six of their last seven outings in August, proving they know how to start the year right.

And even though the Bulldogs lost a plethora of key players this offseason, they’re more than ready to bounce back. Georgia’s elite program has resulted in it having 24/7 Sports‘ No. 1 2024 recruit class, featuring five 5-star recruits and 19 4-star prospects.

Clemson opted not to take advantage of the transfer portal this summer, which could come back to bite the Tigers if they experience another slow start to the year.

With that in mind, let’s take Georgia to win and cover the spread in the process. The Bulldogs are the clear-cut better team and have continued to prove that throughout the years. Georgia is also 7-1 SU with a plus-13.0 average scoring margin in its last eight games against Clemson, winning four of those matchups by 12 or more points.

The Tigers will put up a fight at times, but it won’t be good enough to avoid a lopsided loss.

Beck performed well for the Bulldogs under center last season, averaging a solid 281.5 passing yards across 14 starts. The junior quarterback finished with the Over on this prop in nine of those appearances, which is a success rate of 64.3%. That’s without bringing up how he hit the 300-yard mark five times along the way.

Clemson had a solid pass defense last year, however, the secondary did lose several key members this offseason. After the Tigers surrendered 306 passing yards to Kentucky at the Gator Bowl, I don’t see Beck having any issues when it comes to racking up passing yards this weekend.
