F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

The starting grid for the 2024 British Grand Prix has been established after the F1 qualifying round.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session began, it was confirmed that Alpine’s Pierre Gasly would start at the rear of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, there were still many uncertainties heading into the qualifying round, particularly due to the wet conditions at Silverstone.

George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone

The commencement of Q1 saw the drivers on intermediate tyres, with sunlight bathing part of the circuit and the looming threat of rain from the dark clouds over the remaining part. Valtteri Bottas was the pioneer to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain at the end of Q1 led the drivers to hurriedly queue to get back on track and set lap times. As the track dried up, Perez quickly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

An intriguing Q3 session was set up with both Astons and Alex Albon’s Williams making it through to the top 10, alongside Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg. Despite suffering damage from a trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1, Max Verstappen was able to continue.

In Q3’s first runs, George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton, all British, took the top three spots. However, with another run still to come at Silverstone, these standings could change.

Norris was forced to abandon his final lap, however, Russell managed to outpace Hamilton’s faster lap, achieving his first home pole at Silverstone. This also resulted in an all-British top three at Silverstone for Sunday’s race.
