F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

The starting grid for the 2024 British Grand Prix F1 has been established after the qualifying round.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session began, it was already confirmed that Pierre Gasly of Alpine would start from the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, many decisions were yet to be made heading into qualifying, especially with the wet conditions at Silverstone.

George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone

The first quarter commenced with drivers on intermediate tyres, as the circuit was partially sunny and partially overcast with looming rain clouds. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain towards the end of Q1 led to drivers rushing to get back on the track and set lap times. As the track dried up, Perez quickly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

The intriguing Q3 session was set up with both Astons and Alex Albon’s Williams making it to the top 10, along with Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen, despite sustaining damage from his trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1, was able to continue.

In Q3’s initial runs, George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton, all British, occupied the top three positions. However, at Silverstone, another run could potentially change this standing.

Norris was forced to abandon his final lap, while Russell successfully fended off a quicker lap from Hamilton. This moved Russell up to secure his first-ever home pole position at Silverstone. In addition, this resulted in an all-British top three for Sunday’s race at Silverstone.
