F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

Qualifying for the 2024 British Grand Prix has determined the F1 starting grid.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session, it was already established that Pierre Gasly of Alpine would start at the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, there were still many decisions to be made heading into the qualifying round due to the wet conditions at Silverstone.

The first quarter began with the drivers on intermediate tyres, while the sun shone over one part of the circuit and ominous clouds hung over the other parts, indicating a looming threat of rain. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

Threats of more rain towards the end of Q1 led the drivers to rush onto the track for setting up lap times as quickly as possible. As the track started drying up, Perez quickly fell to the rear of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

An intriguing Q3 session was set up, with both Astons, Alex Albon’s Williams, and Nico Hulkenberg from Haas making it to the top 10. Max Verstappen, despite carrying damage from a trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1, was also able to continue.

The initial runs in Q3 resulted in an all-British top three, featuring George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, everything could change at Silverstone with another run still to come for all.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, but Russell managed to ward off a quicker lap from Hamilton to secure his first-ever home pole at Silverstone. He also achieved an all-British top three for Sunday’s race at Silverstone.
