F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

The starting grid for the 2024 British Grand Prix has been established after the F1 qualifying round.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session commenced, it was confirmed that Alpine’s Pierre Gasly would start at the back of the grid due to a complete power unit change. However, many things were still uncertain as the qualifying round approached, given the wet conditions at Silverstone.

The beginning of Q1 saw the drivers on intermediate tyres, with sunlight illuminating one part of the circuit while dark clouds loomed ominously in other areas, indicating potential rain. Valtteri Bottas was the initial driver to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain at the end of Q1 prompted the drivers to rush onto the track to set lap times as quickly as possible. As the track dried up, Perez quickly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

This led to an interesting Q3 session, as both Astons and Alex Albon’s Williams made it into the top 10. Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg also advanced, despite Max Verstappen’s damage from a trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1. Verstappen managed to continue despite the setback.

The first races in Q3 at Silverstone saw an all-British top three consisting of George Russell, Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton. However, with another race still to come, the leaderboard could still change.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, but Russell managed to outpace a quicker lap from Hamilton, earning his first-ever pole position at Silverstone. He also contributed to an all-British top three at Silverstone for Sunday’s race.
