F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

The starting grid for the 2024 British Grand Prix has been established after the F1 qualifying round.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session began, it was established that Pierre Gasly of Alpine would start at the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, the qualifying session at Silverstone, under wet conditions, still had many outcomes to be determined.

The beginning of Q1 saw the drivers on intermediate tyres, with a part of the circuit bathed in sunlight and dark clouds looming over the other part, hinting at possible rain. Valtteri Bottas was the first to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain at the end of Q1 prompted the drivers to rush onto the track to set lap times as quickly as possible. However, as the track began to dry, Perez quickly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

An intriguing Q3 session was set up with both Astons and Alex Albon’s Williams making it to the top 10, along with Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen was handling damage from his trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1 but was able to continue.

During the first runs in Q3 at Silverstone, George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton, all British, made up the top three. However, with another run remaining, this could change.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, while Russell managed to outpace Hamilton’s faster lap, securing his first-ever home pole position at Silverstone. This also marked an all-British top three at Silverstone for Sunday’s race.
