F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

The starting grid for the 2024 British Grand Prix has been established following the F1 qualifying round.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Prior to the session, it was already established that Pierre Gasly of Alpine would begin from the back of the grid due to a complete power unit change. However, with wet conditions at Silverstone, there was still a significant amount of uncertainty leading up to the qualifying round.

George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone

The first quarter started with the drivers using intermediate tyres. The sky was a mix of sunny and cloudy as dark clouds were looming over a part of the circuit, hinting at possible rain. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain towards the end of Q1 prompted the drivers to swiftly return to the track and set lap times. However, as the track started drying up, Perez quickly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

This created an intriguing Q3 session, with both Astons, Alex Albon’s Williams, and Nico Hulkenberg from Haas making it to the top 10. Despite suffering damage from his trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1, Max Verstappen was still able to continue.

The initial runs in Q3 at Silverstone resulted in an all-British top three with George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, with another run pending, this could potentially change.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, however, Russell managed to outpace a faster lap from Hamilton, securing his first ever home pole position at Silverstone. This also resulted in an all-British top three for Sunday’s Silverstone race.
