F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

The starting grid for the 2024 British Grand Prix has been established after the F1 qualifying round.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session, it was clear that Pierre Gasly from Alpine would be starting at the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, many decisions were yet to be made heading into qualifying, given the wet conditions at Silverstone.

George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone

The first quarter began with the drivers on intermediate tyres, as the sun was shining over a section of the circuit while dark clouds loomed in other areas, indicating a potential rain risk. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain towards the end of Q1 led the drivers to hastily queue up to set their lap times on the track. As the track began to dry, Perez swiftly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

The intriguing Q3 session was set up with both Astons and Alex Albon’s Williams making it through to the top 10, along with Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen managed to continue despite carrying damage from his own trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1.

In Q3’s initial runs, the top three spots were all occupied by British racers – George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, with another run still to take place at Silverstone, this could potentially change.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, while Russell successfully fended off a quicker lap from Hamilton, securing his first-ever home pole position at Silverstone. He also contributed to an all-British top-three lineup for Sunday’s race at Silverstone.
