F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

The starting grid for the 2024 British Grand Prix has been established after the F1 qualifying round.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session, it was already established that Pierre Gasly of Alpine would begin at the back of the grid due to a complete power unit change. However, heading into qualifying, there was still a significant amount to be determined, especially given the wet conditions at Silverstone.

George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone

The beginning of Q1 saw the drivers using intermediate tyres, with sunlight illuminating one section of the circuit and dark clouds looming elsewhere, indicating possible rain. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The end of Q1 was threatened with more rain, causing the drivers to line up swiftly to set lap times on the track. As the track started drying up, Perez quickly fell to the rear of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

The intriguing Q3 session was set up with both Astons and Alex Albon’s Williams making it to the top 10, along with Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg. Max Verstappen, despite carrying damage from his trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1, was able to continue.

The initial runs in Q3 at Silverstone resulted in an all-British top three, consisting of George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, with another run still to come, these standings can change.

Norris was unable to complete his final lap, yet Russell managed to outpace Hamilton’s faster lap, securing his first ever home pole position at Silverstone. This achievement also led to an all-British top three for Sunday’s race at Silverstone.
