F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

The starting grid for the 2024 British Grand Prix has been established following the F1 qualifying.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session began, it was clear that Pierre Gasly from Alpine would start from the back of the grid due to a complete power unit change. However, the qualifying round at Silverstone, under wet conditions, still had many outcomes to determine.

George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone

The first quarter began with the drivers using intermediate tyres. The sun was shining on one part of the circuit while dark clouds loomed in other areas, implying a possible rain threat. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain towards the end of Q1 led the drivers to quickly queue to return to the track and set lap times. However, as the track dried up, Perez quickly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

This led to a fascinating Q3 session, with both Astons, Alex Albon’s Williams, and Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg making it to the top 10. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen was dealing with damage from an excursion into the gravel at Copse in Q1, but he was able to continue.

In Q3’s initial runs, an all-British top three featuring George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton emerged. However, with another run still to come at Silverstone, this could all change.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, however, Russell managed to fend off Hamilton’s faster lap to secure his first-ever home pole position at Silverstone. This also led to an all-British top three for the upcoming Sunday’s race at Silverstone.
