F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

Following the qualifying round for the 2024 British Grand Prix, the starting grid for F1 has been established.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session, it was pre-determined that Pierre Gasly from Alpine would start at the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, the wet conditions at Silverstone left many things undecided going into the qualifying round.

George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone

The beginning of Q1 saw the drivers on intermediate tyres, with sunlight on one area of the circuit and dark clouds menacing elsewhere, indicating a potential rain threat. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain at the end of Q1 led to drivers rushing to get back on track to set lap times as quickly as possible. As the track began to dry up, Perez quickly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

This created an interesting Q3 session, with both Astons, Alex Albon’s Williams, and Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg making it to the top 10. Max Verstappen, despite his car being damaged from a gravel encounter at Copse in Q1, was also able to continue.

During the first runs in Q3 at Silverstone, the top three positions were held by British drivers George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, with another run still to come, there was potential for this ranking to change.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, but Russell managed to fend off Hamilton’s faster lap, earning himself his first-ever home pole position at Silverstone. Additionally, he secured an all-British top three for Sunday’s race at Silverstone.
