F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?
The starting grid for the 2024 British Grand Prix has been established after the F1 qualifying round.
The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.
Before the session began, it was clear that Pierre Gasly from Alpine would start at the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, with wet conditions at Silverstone, many decisions were still pending going into the qualifying round.
George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone
The first quarter commenced with the drivers using intermediate tyres. The weather was a mix of sunshine on one part of the circuit and dark clouds hovering on another, indicating a potential threat of rain. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to venture out on slicks.
But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.
Threats of more rain at the end of Q1 led to drivers rushing to get back on track and set lap times as quickly as possible. However, as the track began to dry up, Perez quickly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.
This initiated an interesting Q3 session, seeing both Astons and Alex Albon’s Williams among the top 10, as well as Nico Hulkenberg from Haas. Max Verstappen, despite enduring damage from his venture into the gravel at Copse in Q1, was able to continue.
The initial runs in Q3 at Silverstone resulted in an all-British top three, featuring George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, there’s still another run to come which could potentially alter the standings.
Norris had to abandon his final lap, however, Russell managed to resist a quicker lap from Hamilton, allowing him to secure his first-ever home pole at Silverstone. This achievement also led to an all-British top three at Silverstone for Sunday’s race.
