F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

The starting grid for the 2024 British Grand Prix has been established after the F1 qualifying round.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

It was predetermined before the session that Pierre Gasly of Alpine would be starting at the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, the wet conditions at Silverstone meant there was still a great deal to determine heading into qualifying.

The first quarter kicked off with the drivers on intermediate tyres, as the sun shone over one part of the track and dark clouds loomed in other areas, hinting at possible rain. Valtteri Bottas was the initial driver to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

At the end of Q1, more rain threatened, leading the drivers to rush onto the track to set lap times as quickly as possible. As the track dried, Perez quickly found himself at the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

An intriguing Q3 session was set up, with both Aston Martins and Alex Albon’s Williams making it to the top 10. This also included Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg. Max Verstappen, despite sustaining damage from a trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1, was able to continue.

The initial runs in Q3 at Silverstone resulted in an all-British top three consisting of George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, with another run yet to happen for all, the standings could still change.

Norris had to withdraw from his final lap, but Russell managed to fend off a quicker lap from Hamilton to secure his first ever home pole at Silverstone. This also resulted in an all-British top three at Silverstone for Sunday’s race.
