F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

Following the qualifying round for the 2024 British Grand Prix, the starting grid for F1 has been established.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session began, it was already confirmed that Pierre Gasly from Alpine would start from the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, with wet conditions at Silverstone, there were still many outcomes to be determined as they headed into the qualifying round.

George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone

The beginning of Q1 saw the drivers on intermediate tyres, with sunshine over a section of the circuit and dark clouds looming elsewhere due to a potential rain threat. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

Threats of more rain at the end of Q1 led the drivers to hastily queue up to get back on track and set lap times. As the track dried up, Perez quickly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

This created an interesting Q3 session, with both Astons, Alex Albon’s Williams and Haas driver, Nico Hulkenberg, making it to the top 10. Max Verstappen had damage from his own excursion to the gravel at Copse in Q1, but was still able to continue.

In Q3’s first runs, an all-British top three was seen with George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, with another run scheduled at Silverstone, this could all change.

Norris had to withdraw from his final lap. However, Russell managed to fend off Hamilton’s faster lap, securing his first-ever pole position at his home ground, Silverstone. This achievement also resulted in an all-British top three for Sunday’s Silverstone race.
