F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

Following the qualifying round for the 2024 British Grand Prix, the starting grid for F1 has been established.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session, it was already established that Pierre Gasly of Alpine would start at the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, with the wet conditions at Silverstone, many outcomes were yet to be determined as we approached the qualifying phase.

George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone

The beginning of Q1 saw the drivers on intermediate tyres, as the sun shone over a section of the circuit while dark clouds ominously hovered elsewhere, hinting at possible rain. Valtteri Bottas was the first to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain at the end of Q1 led to drivers rushing to get back on the track to set lap times as quickly as possible. The drying track resulted in Perez swiftly falling to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

An intriguing Q3 session was set up, with both Astons and Williams’ Alex Albon making it to the top 10. Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg also made it through, while Max Verstappen managed to carry on despite sustaining damage from his trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1.

The initial runs in Q3 at Silverstone ended with an all-British top three: George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, with another run still to come, the standings could change.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, however, Russell managed to withstand a quicker lap from Hamilton, securing his first ever home pole position at Silverstone. This also resulted in an all-British top three for Sunday’s race at Silverstone.
