F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?
Following the qualifying round for the 2024 British Grand Prix, the starting grid for F1 has been established.
The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.
Prior to the session, it was established that Pierre Gasly from Alpine would be starting at the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, the wet conditions at Silverstone left a lot to be determined going into the qualifying round.
George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone
The first qualifying session (Q1) began with drivers using intermediate tyres due to varying weather conditions – sunshine in one area of the circuit and looming dark clouds in another, indicating possible rain. Valtteri Bottas was the first to brave the conditions with slick tyres.
But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.
At the end of Q1, there was a threat of more rain. This led the drivers to hurry onto the track to set lap times. However, as the track began to dry, Perez quickly moved to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.
The intriguing Q3 session was set up with both Astons, Williams’s Alex Albon, and Haas’s Nico Hulkenberg successfully making it to the top 10. Max Verstappen, despite sustaining damage from a trip to the gravel at Copse during Q1, managed to continue.
In Q3’s initial runs, an all-British top three emerged with George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton leading. However, there was still another run at Silverstone where the rankings could potentially change.
Norris had to abandon his final lap, however, Russell managed to resist a quicker lap from Hamilton, thus securing his first-ever pole position at his home turf in Silverstone. This also lead to an all-British top three for the upcoming Sunday race at Silverstone.
