F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?
Following qualifying, the starting grid for the 2024 British Grand Prix F1 has been established.
The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.
Before the session began, it was already established that Pierre Gasly of Alpine would start at the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, a lot was still to be determined in the qualifying round due to the wet conditions at Silverstone.
George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone
The first quarter began with the drivers using intermediate tyres, as the sun shone over a section of the circuit, and dark clouds loomed in other areas, hinting at possible rain. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to switch to slicks.
But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.
Threats of more rain towards the end of Q1 caused drivers to quickly line up to return to the track to set lap times. Consequently, as the track dried up, Perez rapidly fell to the end of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.
The intriguing Q3 session was set up with both Astons and Alex Albon’s Williams making it to the top 10, along with Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg. Max Verstappen, despite carrying damage from his trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1, was able to continue.
The initial races in Q3 at Silverstone resulted in an all-British top three of George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, with another round still to come, the rankings could change.
Norris had to abandon his final lap, while Russell managed to resist a faster lap from Hamilton, improving his position to clinically secure his first-ever home pole at Silverstone. This achievement also led to an all-British top three for Sunday’s race at Silverstone.
