F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

Following the qualifying round for the 2024 British Grand Prix, the F1 starting grid has been established.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session, it was already confirmed that Pierre Gasly of Alpine would initiate from the back of the grid due to a complete power unit change. However, there was still much to determine going into the qualifying round with the wet conditions at Silverstone.

George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone

The beginning of Q1 saw the drivers on intermediate tyres, with sunshine over a section of the circuit and looming dark clouds elsewhere, hinting at potential rain. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain at the end of Q1 prompted the drivers to hurry back onto the track to set lap times. As the track dried up, Perez quickly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

This intriguing Q3 session was set up with both Astons and Alex Albon’s Williams making it to the top 10, alongside Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg. Max Verstappen, despite sustaining damage from his trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1, was able to continue.

The initial runs in Q3 at Silverstone resulted in an all-British top three that included George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, with another run scheduled, this lineup could change.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, but Russell managed to fend off Hamilton’s faster lap to secure his first-ever home pole position at Silverstone. This achievement also marked an all-British top three at Silverstone for Sunday’s race.
