F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

The starting grid for the 2024 British Grand Prix has been established following the F1 qualifying.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session, it was already clear that Pierre Gasly from Alpine would be starting at the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, the wet conditions at Silverstone meant that many other decisions were still to be made heading into the qualifying round.

George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone

The first quarter began with the drivers using intermediate tyres, as the circuit had both sunny and cloudy areas, indicating possible rain. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain at the end of Q1 triggered the drivers to rush onto the track and set lap times as quickly as possible. As the track began to dry, Perez quickly found himself at the back of the pack.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

Both Astons and Alex Albon of Williams made it to the top 10, setting up an interesting Q3 session. Nico Hulkenberg, a Haas driver, also advanced. Despite suffering damage from a trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1, Max Verstappen was able to continue.

In Q3’s first runs, George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton, all British, occupied the top three spots. However, another run at Silverstone could potentially change this ranking.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, however, Russell managed to outpace Hamilton’s faster lap to secure his first ever home pole position at Silverstone. He also led an all-British top three for Sunday’s race at Silverstone.
