F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

Following the qualifying rounds for the 2024 British Grand Prix, the starting grid for F1 has been established.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session started, it was already confirmed that Pierre Gasly from Alpine would begin at the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, many things were still to be determined going into the qualifying round under the wet conditions at Silverstone.

George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone

The beginning of Q1 saw the drivers commencing on intermediate tyres. The circuit bore a contrasting view with the sun shining on one part while dark clouds loomed over the other, indicating possible rain. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to switch to slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain towards the end of Q1 led drivers to hastily get back on the track to set lap times. However, the drying track caused Perez to quickly fall to the rear of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

This led to an interesting Q3 session, where both Astons and Alex Albon’s Williams made it to the top 10, along with Haas’ driver Nico Hulkenberg. Despite Max Verstappen’s trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1 which caused some damage, he was still able to continue.

George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton, all British, dominated the first runs in Q3 at Silverstone. However, there was still another run remaining that could potentially alter the standings.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, but Russell managed to fend off a faster lap from Hamilton. This allowed Russell to secure his first-ever pole position at his home circuit, Silverstone. Furthermore, he led an all-British top three for Sunday’s race at Silverstone.
