F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

Following the qualifying rounds for the 2024 British Grand Prix, the starting grid for F1 has been established.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session started, it was already confirmed that Pierre Gasly from Alpine would start at the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, the wet conditions at Silverstone meant a lot was still to be determined during the qualifying.

The first quarter began with the drivers using intermediate tyres, with sunshine illuminating one part of the circuit and dark clouds looming in other areas, indicating a potential rain threat. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

At the end of Q1, there was a threat of more rain. Consequently, the drivers hastened to return to the track to set their lap times. However, as the track began to dry, Perez quickly fell to the rear of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

An intriguing Q3 session was set up, featuring both Astons, Williams’ Alex Albon, and Haas’ Nico Hulkenberg, who all made it to the top 10. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen managed to carry on despite sustaining damage from his trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1.

In Q3, the initial runs resulted in an all-British top three with George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton, yet the standings could change with another run at Silverstone yet to come.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, however, Russell managed to fend off a quicker lap from Hamilton. This improved his position, allowing him to secure his first-ever home pole at Silverstone. This also led to a top three finish for the British at Silverstone for Sunday’s race.
