F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

Following the qualifying round for the 2024 British Grand Prix, the starting grid for F1 has been established.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Prior to the session, it was already established that Pierre Gasly of Alpine would be starting at the back of the grid due to a complete power unit change. However, with wet conditions at Silverstone, a lot remained to be determined during the qualifying round.

The first quarter began with the drivers using intermediate tyres. The weather was inconsistent with the sun shining on one part of the circuit while dark clouds loomed over the other, indicating the possibility of rain. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to venture out using slick tyres.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain at the end of Q1 prompted drivers to quickly queue up to set lap times on the track. However, as the track dried up, Perez swiftly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

An intriguing Q3 session was set up, with both Astons, Alex Albon’s Williams, and Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg making it through to the top 10. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen was dealing with damage from a trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1, but he managed to continue.

The initial races in Q3 at Silverstone saw George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton – all British – in the top three positions. However, there’s still another run left where the rankings could change.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, but Russell managed to fend off a faster lap from Hamilton, securing his first-ever home pole at Silverstone. This also led to an all-British top three at Silverstone for Sunday’s race.
