F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

The starting grid for the 2024 British Grand Prix has been established after the F1 qualifying.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session started, it was clear that Pierre Gasly of Alpine would start from the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, with wet conditions at Silverstone, there was still a significant amount of decisions to be made going into qualifying.

George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone

The first quarter kicked off with the drivers using intermediate tyres, as the circuit was partly sunny and partly covered with dark clouds indicating potential rain. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The end of Q1 was threatened with more rain, which led to the drivers lining up to quickly return to the track and set lap times. Consequently, as the track dried up, Perez swiftly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

An intriguing Q3 session was set up, with both Astons, the Williams of Alex Albon, and Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg making it through to the top 10. Max Verstappen, despite carrying damage from his own trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1, was also able to carry on.

The initial runs in Q3 at Silverstone resulted in an all-British top three featuring George Russell, Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton. However, with another run still to come, there is potential for this to change.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, while Russell managed to outpace Hamilton’s faster lap to secure his first ever pole position at Silverstone. This achievement also led to an all-British top three at Silverstone for Sunday’s race.
