F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

The starting grid for the 2024 British Grand Prix has been determined after the F1 qualifying.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session, it was already clear that Pierre Gasly of Alpine would be starting at the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, the wet conditions at Silverstone meant there was still much to be determined going into the qualifying round.

George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone

The beginning of Q1 saw the drivers on intermediate tyres, with sunlight shining on one section of the circuit while dark clouds loomed in other areas, creating a lingering possibility of rain. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to opt for slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain towards the end of Q1 forced drivers to quickly line up to get back on track and set lap times. As the track dried up, Perez swiftly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

This led to an interesting Q3 session, with both Astons and Williams’ Alex Albon making it to the top 10, along with Haas’ Nico Hulkenberg. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen continued despite carrying damage from his own excursion into the gravel at Copse in Q1.

In Q3’s first runs, George Russell, Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton – all British – topped the charts. However, with another opportunity to run at Silverstone, the rankings could still change.

Norris had to withdraw from his final lap, but Russell successfully fended off a faster lap from Hamilton, improving his performance to earn his first-ever home pole at Silverstone. He also helped achieve an all-British top three at Silverstone for Sunday’s race.
