F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

Qualifying for the 2024 British Grand Prix has determined the starting grid for F1.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session, it was already established that Pierre Gasly of Alpine would start from the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, numerous decisions were still pending as the qualifying round approached under wet conditions at Silverstone.

The first qualifying session began with the drivers on intermediate tyres due to varying weather conditions – sunny in one area of the circuit and potential rainfall in another, with dark clouds looming. Valtteri Bottas was the first to brave the circuit on slick tyres.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain at the end of Q1 led to the drivers lining up to quickly return to the track and set lap times. However, as the track dried up, Perez quickly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

This resulted in a fascinating Q3 session, with both Astons, the Williams driven by Alex Albon, and Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg, all making it to the top 10. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen continued despite sustaining damage from his own excursion into the gravel at Copse during Q1.

In Q3’s first runs at Silverstone, the top three racers were all British – George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, this could change as another run is yet to come.

Norris had to withdraw from his final lap, but Russell resisted a quicker lap from Hamilton to better his position and secure his first-ever home pole at Silverstone. This achievement also led to an all-British top three for Sunday’s race at Silverstone.
