F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

The starting grid for the 2024 British Grand Prix F1 has been established after qualifying.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Prior to the session, it was clear that Pierre Gasly from Alpine would be starting from the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, the qualifying outcomes were uncertain due to the wet conditions at Silverstone.

The first quarter began with the drivers on intermediate tyres. The circuit was under varied weather conditions – sunshine in one area and looming dark clouds in another, hinting at possible rain. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain at the end of Q1 led drivers to rush onto the track to set lap times as quickly as possible. Perez, however, swiftly fell to the back of the field due to the track drying up.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

An intriguing Q3 session was set up, with both Astons, Alex Albon’s Williams, and Nico Hulkenberg from Haas making it to the top 10. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen continued despite sustaining damage from his own excursion to the gravel at Copse in Q1.

The initial runs in Q3 at Silverstone resulted in a top three entirely made up of British drivers: George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, another run is still to come and that can potentially alter the standings.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, but Russell managed to resist a quicker lap from Hamilton. This allowed him to secure his first-ever pole position at his home race in Silverstone. Additionally, he achieved the feat of being part of an all-British top three at Silverstone for the Sunday race.
