F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

Following the qualifying round for the 2024 British Grand Prix, the F1 starting grid has been established.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Prior to the session, it was clear that Pierre Gasly from Alpine would be starting at the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, the wet conditions at Silverstone meant that there were many decisions still to be made before qualifying.

George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone

The beginning of Q1 saw the drivers on intermediate tyres, as sunshine bathed one part of the circuit while dark clouds loomed threateningly elsewhere, hinting at possible rain. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain at the end of Q1 led to drivers rushing to get back on track to set lap times as quickly as possible. As the track dried up, Perez quickly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

This led to a fascinating Q3 session, where both Aston Martins and Alex Albon’s Williams had made it into the top 10. Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg also made it, while Max Verstappen continued despite suffering damage from a trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1.

In Q3, the first runs resulted in an all-British top three with George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton leading. However, there is another run at Silverstone that could potentially change this lineup.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, but Russell managed to outperform Hamilton’s faster lap to secure his first-ever home pole at Silverstone. He also contributed to an all-British top three at Silverstone for Sunday’s race.
