F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

The starting grid for the 2024 British Grand Prix has been established after the F1 qualifying round.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Ahead of the session, it was confirmed that Pierre Gasly from Alpine would start at the back of the grid due to a complete power unit change. However, the wet conditions at Silverstone meant there was still much to be determined going into the qualifying.

The first quarter began with the drivers using intermediate tyres, as the sun shone over a section of the circuit and dark clouds loomed in other parts, indicating a potential rainfall. Valtteri Bottas was the initial driver to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain towards the end of Q1 prompted the drivers to hastily line up to return to the track and set lap times. Due to the track drying up, Perez quickly fell to the rear of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

An intriguing Q3 session was set up with both Astons, Alex Albon’s Williams, and Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg making it to the top 10. Despite sustaining damage from a trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1, Max Verstappen was able to continue.

The initial runs in Q3 resulted in an all-British top three, featuring George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, at Silverstone, there is another opportunity for this lineup to change.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, but Russell managed to fend off Hamilton’s faster lap to secure his first-ever home pole at Silverstone. This also resulted in an all-British top three at Silverstone for Sunday’s race.
