F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

The starting grid for the 2024 British Grand Prix has been established after the F1 qualifying rounds.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session began, it was confirmed that Pierre Gasly of Alpine would start at the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, there was still much to be determined going into qualifying, particularly given the wet conditions at Silverstone.

George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone

The first quarter began with the drivers on intermediate tyres, under a sky that was sunny in one part of the circuit and cloudy with a lingering threat of rain in another. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain at the end of Q1 resulted in drivers rushing to get back on track to set lap times. Due to the track drying up, Perez quickly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

An intriguing Q3 session was set up by both Astons and Alex Albon of Williams, who had made it to the top 10. Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg also made it through, while Max Verstappen continued despite carrying damage from his own trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1.

In Q3’s first runs, the top three were all British – George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, at Silverstone, another run could potentially change this lineup.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, but Russell managed to fend off Hamilton’s quicker lap. This improvement allowed him to achieve his first-ever home pole position at Silverstone. He also contributed to an all-British top three at Silverstone for Sunday’s race.
