F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

The starting grid for the 2024 British Grand Prix has been established after the F1 qualifying rounds.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session started, it was confirmed that Pierre Gasly from Alpine would be starting from the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, with wet conditions at Silverstone, there were many decisions yet to be made heading into qualifying.

George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone

The first qualifier (Q1) began with drivers using intermediate tyres, under a mix of sunshine and dark, rain-threatening clouds over different parts of the circuit. Valtteri Bottas was the first to hit the track on slick tyres.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain at the end of Q1 led the drivers to rush out on the track to set lap times as quickly as possible. However, as the track began to dry up, Perez quickly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

This set up a captivating Q3 session, as both Astons and Alex Albon’s Williams made it to the top 10, along with Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen, despite sustaining damage from a gravel trip at Copse in Q1, was able to continue.

The initial runs in Q3 at Silverstone resulted in an all-British top three, featuring George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, with another run scheduled for all, this hierarchy could potentially change.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, however, Russell fended off a quicker lap from Hamilton to secure his first-ever home pole position at Silverstone. This also resulted in an all-British top three for Sunday’s race at Silverstone.
