F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?
Following the qualifying rounds for the 2024 British Grand Prix, the starting grid for F1 has been established.
The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.
Before the session, it was already established that Pierre Gasly of Alpine would start at the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, with wet conditions at Silverstone, there was still a significant amount of decisions to be made heading into qualifying.
George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone
The first qualifying round began with drivers using intermediate tyres due to varying weather conditions – sunlight was shining on one part of the track while dark clouds threatened rain elsewhere. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to brave the conditions on slick tyres.
But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.
The threat of more rain at the end of Q1 led to drivers rushing to get back on the track and set lap times. As the track dried up, Perez quickly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.
This created an interesting Q3 session, with both Astons, Alex Albon’s Williams, and Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg making it to the top 10. Max Verstappen, despite bearing damage from his trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1, was also able to continue.
In Q3’s first runs at Silverstone, the top three spots were held by British drivers George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, with another run still left, the standings could potentially change.
Norris had to abandon his final lap, but Russell managed to fend off a speedier lap from Hamilton to secure his first-ever home pole at Silverstone. This achievement also resulted in an all-British top three at Silverstone for Sunday’s race.
