F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?
Following the qualifying round for the 2024 British Grand Prix, the starting grid for F1 has been established.
The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.
Before the session, it was already confirmed that Pierre Gasly from Alpine would be starting at the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, there were still many decisions to be made heading into qualifying, especially considering the wet conditions at Silverstone.
George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone
The first quarter started with the drivers on intermediate tyres, with sunlight shining on part of the track and dark clouds looming elsewhere, indicating potential rain. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to venture out on slicks.
But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.
The threat of more rain towards the end of Q1 led drivers to quickly line up on the track to set lap times. As the track dried up, Perez fell behind and was last in the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.
This led to an intriguing Q3 session. Both Astons and Alex Albon’s Williams car made it into the top 10, as did Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen was dealing with damage from a gravel trip at Copse in Q1 but was able to continue.
The initial runs in Q3 resulted in an all-British top three consisting of George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, there’s another run at Silverstone that could potentially change this lineup.
Norris had to abandon his final lap, while Russell managed to outpace Hamilton’s faster lap to secure his first-ever home pole at Silverstone. Furthermore, he contributed to an all-British top three at Silverstone for Sunday’s race.
