F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?
The starting grid for the 2024 British Grand Prix has been established after the F1 qualifying round.
The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.
Prior to the session, it was established that Pierre Gasly of Alpine would be starting at the rear of the grid due to a complete power unit change. However, there was still much to be determined going into the qualifying round, particularly considering the wet conditions at Silverstone.
George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone
The first quarter began with drivers using intermediate tyres due to varying weather conditions on the circuit – a sunny section and another under dark, potentially rain-bearing clouds. Valtteri Bottas was the first to venture out on slicks.
But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.
The threat of more rain at the end of Q1 led to the drivers lining up to quickly get back on track and set lap times. Due to the track drying up, Perez quickly fell to the end of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.
Both Astons and Alex Albon’s Williams made it through to the top 10 in an intriguing Q3 session. Nico Hulkenberg, the Haas driver, also made it through. Max Verstappen, despite carrying damage from a trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1, was also able to continue.
The initial races in Q3 at Silverstone saw an entirely British top three – George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, with another round still to come, the rankings could potentially change.
Norris had to abandon his final lap, yet Russell successfully fended off a quicker lap from Hamilton. This allowed him to clinically secure his first ever home pole position at Silverstone, and also to ensure an all-British top three for Sunday’s race at Silverstone.
