F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

Following the qualifying round for the 2024 British Grand Prix, the starting grid for F1 has been established.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session started, it was established that Pierre Gasly of Alpine would be starting from the back of the grid due to a complete power unit change. However, with wet conditions at Silverstone, there were still many decisions to be made going into qualifying.

The beginning of Q1 saw the drivers on intermediate tyres, as the sun shone over a section of the circuit and ominous clouds loomed elsewhere, hinting at possible rain. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to take to the circuit on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain at the end of Q1 prompted the drivers to rush out and set lap times on the track as quickly as possible. Perez fell to the back of the field swiftly as the track began to dry up.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

An exciting Q3 session was set up, featuring both Astons and Alex Albon’s Williams, who had all advanced into the top 10. Additionally, Haas’s driver Nico Hulkenberg made it through. Despite sustaining damage from a trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1, Max Verstappen was able to continue.

In Q3’s first runs at Silverstone, the top three positions were all taken by British drivers George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, the ranking could still change with another run to come for all.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, but Russell managed to defend against Hamilton’s faster lap, securing his first-ever home pole at Silverstone. This also made for an all-British top three at Silverstone for Sunday’s race.
