F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

The starting grid for the 2024 British Grand Prix has been determined after F1 qualifying.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session, it was already established that Pierre Gasly of Alpine would start at the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, with wet conditions at Silverstone, there were many unresolved matters heading into qualifying.

George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone

The first quarter began with the drivers using intermediate tyres as the sun shone over part of the circuit and dark clouds loomed in other areas, indicating a possible rainfall. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to switch to slick tyres.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain at the end of Q1 led to drivers rushing to get back on the track and set lap times. However, as the track dried up, Perez quickly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

An intriguing Q3 session was set up, featuring both Astons and Alex Albon’s Williams, as they all had made it to the top 10. Additionally, Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg was part of it. Max Verstappen, despite carrying damage from his own gravel trip at Copse in Q1, was able to continue.

The initial runs in Q3 at Silverstone resulted in an all-British top three, featuring George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, with another run scheduled, the rankings could still change.

Norris was forced to abandon his final lap, however, Russell managed to resist a quicker lap from Hamilton, securing his first-ever home pole at Silverstone. This also resulted in an all-British top three for Sunday’s race at Silverstone.
