F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

Following the qualifying rounds for the 2024 British Grand Prix, the F1 starting grid has been established.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session, it was already confirmed that Pierre Gasly from Alpine would start at the back of the grid due to a complete power unit change. However, the qualifying round at Silverstone, under wet conditions, still had a lot of uncertainties to be resolved.

George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone

The first quarter began with the drivers on intermediate tyres, as the sun shone on one part of the circuit while dark clouds threatened rain elsewhere. Valtteri Bottas was the first to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

Threats of increased rainfall towards the end of Q1 led drivers to rush back on track to set lap times as quickly as possible. However, as the track began to dry, Perez quickly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

This led to an intriguing Q3 session, as both Astons, Alex Albon’s Williams, and Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg, made it to the top 10. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen managed to continue despite carrying damage from his trip to the Copse gravel in Q1.

The initial runs in Q3 at Silverstone resulted in an all-British top three comprising of George Russell, Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton. However, with another run scheduled, the standings could still change.

Norris needed to abandon his final lap, but Russell staved off Hamilton’s faster lap to claim his first-ever home pole at Silverstone. He also contributed to an all-British top three at Silverstone for Sunday’s race.
